I'm constantly checking out different text editors and minimal word-processors; I'm kind of addicted to finding the best out of all the lot (haven't been satisfied with a lot of them, though).

The closest to the perfect, minimal text editor I've used has to be Scribes (http://scribes.sourceforge.net/) (Wish I could customize more parts of its interface, though), and for minimal word processors, TextRoom (http://code.google.com/p/textroom/) (but IMHO, it's starting to get some feature creep).

Both of 'em contain great features out of the box and they look pretty good on their own ('course, I'm still looking for others that can top those two).

What similar programs have you used that have impressed you so far?

Emacs.

As simple or as complicated as you want it to be. Same as with Vi/Vim, but I'm not really into either of them.

Nano from the Terminal & Cream is an easy way into the power of vim, with its GUI.

it realy depends on what you are going to be doing with them nano is probibly best just for basic editing purposes but if your doing a bit of programming (although I normally use monodevelop or code::blocks) or creating makefiles emacs can be nice.:KS
