first click on "Show Desktop button" does not show desktop but a nautilus window

the first click on the "Show Desktop button" in bottom left corner of Gnome Desktop does not show the desktop but one of the open nautilus window, one needs to click a second time to show the desktop.
Is it possible and how to change this behavior so that the first click shows the desktop?
