Network with MSI H61M-P23 not working

I'm building a new HTPC.

The motherboard is an MSI H61M-P23 http://www.msi.com/product/mb/H61M-P23--B3-.html

According to the site it has a PCI Express LAN 10/100/1000 Fast Ethernet by Atheros AR8151

I downloaded and installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 10.10. The network did not work. I've googled around, but havent found a fix. Too new?

I went to Atheros web site http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx and tried downloading the drivers from there, the download, with extension .tar.gz errors when I tar -xzf it.

I'm stuck!

I dont like this answer, but installing 11.04 worked, so I'm hoping it was just a driver missing from 10.10.
