I have a new server. I'd like to know how to get Java up and running on it, and then Clojure. I'm going to ssh to this server and then do programming on it, in Emacs.

I see there is a thread here on installing various programming languages:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=333867

The link for Java is out of date and refers to Ubunto 6. There is no link for Clojure.

Can anyone offer me some step-by-step instructions regarding which packages I should install?

http://riddell.us/ClojureSwankLeiningenWithEmacsOnLinux.html is pretty good. If you're just getting started with Clojure, you might want to try https://github.com/alandipert/cljr, as it is quick to get started with.
