I just wanted to know whether Software Center/Synaptic install 64bit version of the various softwares (e.g Thunderbird, Gimp etc.) automatically when running on Ubuntu 64 bit??

Yes it generally does if they are available. I think that adobe flash is 32bit, but 'most' other packages are available in 64bit.

64-bit flash is available from Adobe, but it's not yet in the repositories. Check the FlashAid link in my sig.
