***IGNORE: I've found window applets, an updated alternative***

Background information: I'm always a stickler for screen real estate.
Problem: I read a blog post from a couple of years ago about some useful gnome panel applets and acted on a few of them. There's one I really liked the look of, called namebar. However, the .deb download presented on the website was an outdated page, the same dead page was given at webupd8.org and the instructions for installation on gnome-look.org referred to the package python-gnome2-desktop - when I try to install this in terminal it tells me there's no such package, and similarly it doesn't appear in synaptic.

Is this simply the case that namebar has not been updated since the packages it used were obsoleted? If so, why would such a useful (and, from my web searching, seemingly popular) applet be abandoned?

Sounds like your correct in assuming the project may be dead. Namebar has been removed from launch pad.
