How do I install Ubuntu without a CDROM?

I put the ubuntu alternate installer on a usb stick using the linux usb pen drive program.

It loads the installer, but when it tries to mount the cdrom (which does not exist) I get an error saying it can't mount.

I tried installing with this parameter: cdrom-detect/try-usb=true
That at least let's me choose the option "Load installer components from installer ISO" but it still can't find it. It tries mounting sda, sdb, and sdb1. No luck. I only have one blank hdd and a usb stick.

What do I do?
