I've been unable to install any software from the repositories because of this, and im concerned that ive been leaving fragments of "stuff" on my hard drive.

This PPA: http://ppa.launchpad.net/dan/ppa/ doesn't exist anymore at that URL.

Can you post the output of cat /etc/apt/sources.list ? You've got a reference to Feisty that shouldn't be there, for one.

So the problem must be in one of the files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
Can you run ls /etc/apt/sources.list.d and post the output?

To fix the gpg error, run sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 2ED6BB6042C24D89
