Looks like a java error. I'm no expert but I would delete the .minecraft folder in home, its hidden and reinstall.

Next, delete java through apt-get and its dependencies. Reinstall Sun Java instead of Open Java. If after all this fails, try to uninstall Sun and try Open. If these two workarounds don't work, then the issue is related to something else and needs further investigation/information.

Hope that helps!

EDIT: Try the reinstalling of minecraft first. Also, looks like you may want to update your kernel and see if that helps? You are using 2.6.35-28, latest is 2.6.38-8 on 11.04 at least.

Seems to be a video card issue. I noticed you had an older version of the game? Alpha? Current version of the game is Beta 1.5. Maybe upgrading the game will provide a natural fix to this issue?

I looked into this and the problem seems to be common with intel graphics card (integrated).

Can you write down some more hardware info? Specs? Driver versions?
Also can you write down your bash script to start the game? IE, "java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -cp Minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame" ?
