View Full Version : [ubuntu] Garbled text systemwide/strangeness of desktop backround & login image

This funny thing happens after several days of uptime:

First, the text, system-wide, becomes garbled. Web browser, the panels, the date app. everything is unreadable. There is some sense in it all, in that every symbol or character is consistent in its replacement of whatever letter was supposed to appear. This happens to nearly every character.

Secondly, the desktop picture and log in screen become garbled.

Both text and image garbling happen close to the same time. With the image showing mild symptoms a day beforehand. Picture of rooster is example of "mild."

If I don't restart the system it get progressively worse each day.

Rebooting solves the issue for several days or for a week if I am lucky.
It all started with an upgrade to the 10.10 release.
I was hoping that with the recent upgrade to Natty Narwhal the issue would have been solved but is was not.

The only thing I can think would be of interest is that there are two identities that are used and there is constant back and forth between the two.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
