Wesnoth. It is a game where many people can play/chat at once, is cross platform, and you do not have to pay attention 100% of the time.

I haven't played many, but if I were to say, MAYBE Tux Cart (if it weren't so weird and childish-looking)

I'm not a big gamer but...

FooBillard - awesome physics engine.

GNU Backgammon plays a really strong game and beats me in match play more times than not (as it should).

Sauerbraten - when I want to take a ten minute break and feel like shooting something I will play a level against the machine.

Sauerbraten (http://sauerbraten.org/) is my favorite of the FPS games. Great graphics and crazy fast gameplay.

I also find time to waste on Frozen Bubble, Defendguin, and GLTron. :D

Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Or maybe KMahjongg--I can't decide.

Wesnoth is very high on the list.
Lately though, I've been rocking Shadowgrounds pretty hard, and enjoying it massively.

Does Quake 2 count? :)

A lot of stuff out there really. Im always surprised when people complain there are no games for linux.

Xonotic (the new fork of Nexuiz)
Sauerbraten
Amnesia
Spring RTS (Balanced Annihilation mod)

And then there's a whole lot of other ones, mostly FPS games :D

Yes, my thought was along similar lines; my favorite game in Linux is breaking things and then making them work again. = )

Urban Terror. I play mostly capture the flag. It's one of the best games I've played on Linux.

Trying to administer a system with over 30 semi-braindead users who now have limited root priviliges due to management decisions. The suspense and excitement never ends.

Also nethack and dwarf fortress.

Somewhat agreed, but that's a Java game.

I own a PS3 and do not regret the purchase. I bought it for primarily for its Blu-Ray capability, the future of home theater.

Ouch, you don't regret the purchase?
Since then the Playstation Network has been down for the past week.

It's a pity about software patents and all that, otherwise it'd be easy to view blu-ray media on a Linux box without any legal rubbish to heed.

So many that could be listed here but I'd say Openarena, Cube 2: Sauerbraten, Red Eclipse, Supertuxkart, nethack and Battle for Wesnoth are all excellent games.

There's the great game of setting your cpu(s) to their lowest frequency, ensuring that your graphics card is either using poor drivers (or the card itself is rubbish) and then playing competitive online games at 20 fps or less...and seeing if you can still do any good.
And how could we forget the rousing game of "break the x server and do all your normal tasks from a tty on purpose"? Classic game, that one.
