So heres what I'm trying to do:

I currently have an external hard drive with Snow Leopard OSX installed on it, but I've decided that I instead want to install a different OS on it.

It seems simple enough to reformat the hard drive, but I'm unsure of what to do because I'm using Windows 7. My laptop doesen't recognize the hard drive under 'My Computer' but I can find the it using 'Test Disk' or the built in 'Disk Management' in Windows.

What do I do so that I can just use this hard drive as a storage device? I may install Ubuntu on it later, but I want to figure out this issue first.

Format the disk in Win 7's Disk Management or use Gparted here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php to format it.
