i have installed ubuntu, latest release, on my compaq laptop amd proccessor, older, about 2.8ghz i think.
the install seemed to go fine but when i boot up, enter my user name and password the next screen is just wallpaper. right click doesn't work. alt-f2 doesn't seem to do anything. cntrl-alt-f2 brings up a screen of text and a login. if i sign in in safe mode it seems to work but i can't get online which i assume is something to do with being in safe-mode.
i am very new to linux and although i have tried reading thru some post related to this are in greek to me.
any help would be apreciated.
thanks!
