Ok, so I want to try to use Ubuntu, and I have it on the USB trial mode...

Anyway I get to the main menu, and select the option to run the Ubuntu trial, and then my screen fills with scrolling black text before giving me an 'Out of range' indicator on my monitor. Now my monitor is two years old, so still pretty modern - LCD and about 20" something like that, I need help configuring it/making it able to run Ubuntu. I've no idea how, I'm completely new to Linux and this problem is stopping me before I even get to try it, so I'd appreciate some Linux guru to help me, thank you.

I run Vista at the moment, and I'll probably make the switch if I get over this hurdle.

Oh and I'm getting pretty tired so i may have missed some details out, just shout I'll answer any questions.

Hi and welcome to UF

You may want to try some of these boot options.

If you boot ubuntu from a livecd (or USB stick), right after the bios splash screen you will get a purple screen with a keyboard logo at the bottom:

I've (so far) not reached a purple screen, I get onto the black menu and click the top option, I forget it exact text but it's basically the 'run trial' option, this is when it shows OOR.
