So, I saw a bunch of posts like this on the web, but none of them were really solved, and most were for older versions for Ubuntu, so here goes another one.

I have a 2010 Gateway NV52 Laptop.

It has a ATI Technologies RS780 Azalia sound card.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 - Maverick Meerkat.

I have a pair of functioning headphones that work fine with my laptop's jack in Windows.

In Ubuntu however, regardless of my audio settings, sound only comes out of the laptop's speakers, and never through the headphones.

Even in the headphones section of the Ubuntu System Testing, the sound came out of the speakers.

However, sound through HDMI works fine when I connect my laptop to my TV.

Any help with my headphone problem would be greatly appreciated!

Only 1 day later, and already on the page 6 of the forum!
I think it deserves a bump :P

All those solutions are related to issues concerning the sound card and build-in mic, not the headphones
