I'm using ubuntu on a laptop.
I can get it to boot using the nomodeset single and nomodeset(whats the diff?) in the grub boot.
at first my wireless said it was missing firmware I hooked it up directly to the router.
I was hoping that the updates would provide a driver they didn't

the graphics card is a intel 82830cgc and the host bridge says its a 82830 830 chipset.
anything else you need to know to help me out?

if i can't find the driver is it possible to set it up to automatically bootinto nomodeset without me going into the grub boot loader to change it?

the ubuntu version is 10.10 I heard that 10.04 doesnt have this problem? so as a last resort is it possible to downgrade 10.10 to 10.04?

Ok i got it to boot permanently in nomodeset so i'm good for now but I think it would run better with gfx card drivers
