What is your favorite search engine, such as:
Google
Bing
Yahoo!
MSN
Ask
AltaVista (Now powered by Yahoo! =-[)
InfoSeak
Dogpile
Lycos
All The Web
AOL
Excite
NetScape
Web Crawler

The list can go on forever. Name yours and tell us why!

I like Google and Bing, Google is the best, it's easy and quick and gives me what I need. Bing is just pretty, and I like the way it works. (Yes I know it is Microsoft, but I still use them from time to time.)

Another vote for Duckduckgo. Privacy yes but I also like the bangs eg

!ubutuf - search ubuntu forums
!ubuntup - search for ubuntu packages
!archwiki - search the arch wiki

You can search via scroogle with !s or wolframalpha with !wa

You can search lastfm, guitar tabs, amazon there are literally 100s of them

Google's pretty good for a lot of stuff too.

Don't like Bing, for many reasons.
One such reason is that they copy google searches

Google is so far the only search engine which has consistently provided good results. Then again I have an Android phone, use Gmail and Google Talk. I am a big consumer of Googles services though the amount of information they are capable of collecting does scare me.

AltaVista is Yahoo by the way. Ask.com was fuddled around by many big time companies too.

NetScape should be replaced with AOL; since those are the same companies.

Yeah I know that AltaVista is now Yahoo!, that sucks because Yahoo! sucks and AltaVista used to be amazing!

NetScape sucks, it always has, yes it is AOL, but I am sure there are some who still use netscape.com to search... lol

Yes. So I make sure my facebook name is a fictional character, lol.

In your facebook security settings, you can make your site say https instead of http adding a security layer, most apps do not work with https, but it helps!

Google for day to day operations.(not really concerned about tracking as I keep the Google Analytics script blocked so cut down the tracking, and I don't do porn or anything marginal.

Tried Bing and it does exactly as the advertisement says it does not do .. "search overload" .. gives you page after page of useless (mostly PAID) links that have little or nothing to do with your search. (talk about a major step backwards!) Next thing it will do is add all of the porn links that used to show up in the old line searches such as Ask Jeeves. Bing DOES work if you revert to a partial Boolean method of search entries, but you still get all of the phony links that are just ads or sucker bait.

Is anyone else using Yacy?
http://yacy.net/en/index.html

"YaCy (read "ya see") is a free distributed search engine, built on principles of peer-to-peer (P2P) networks."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YaCy

The idea is that no one person, company, or group is in control of Yacy. So no one can pull the plug and it has a much harder time going down. So far it's not a replacement for google but maybe if enough people get involved it can be.

2. Yandex - for some Russian and Ukrainian stuff which can be found only there.

Well, Yandex seems to have found my website, and pointed me to a couple of pages which have copies of my blog. That could explain why the blogspam filter I have is regularly throwing up 403 errors to a bunch of people with Russian IP adrresses......

I use Scroogle SSL. It gives me another layer of protection from the Google database. It also has all the benefits of the Google search engine which from my testing of other SE's is the most satisfying when I search.

Thankfully Google are in the process of modifying their search algorithms in an effort to limit the search engine scammers effectiveness. It will take some time for them to get that right & it will likely never be 100% effective.

My favorite is duckduckgo because it combines google, bing, and yahoo into one and you can use special characters to search youtube, torrents, images and countless other things. so for instance you can just type !yt chicken and you will be redirected to youtube search results for chicken. very cool concept.

Netscape is still around? LOL!

As a search engine, Netscape is now the same as AOL, as AOL owns them, they do not offer Netscape Internet Browser anymore, unless you want the old ones. They still do offer a Dial Up ISP for those who are still stuck in the yesteryears though.

Wow, image search too. Impressive. This will go nicely with the Add To Search Bar IceCat (http://www.gnu.org/software/gnuzilla/) plug in. Thanks.
