View Full Version : [ubuntu] Write cache and frequent power failures

Hello everyone,

The first thing I should mention is that in the area I live, power failures are a frequent phenomenon. That is the reason I have become considerate about data losses and every possible way to minimize them.

Since I am new to linux I did not know how the cache works until very recently, thus I thought that changes are immediately stored to the disks and the cache served only for faster reading of frequently accessed data. I now guess that this assumption was wrong and that data is not immediately stored to the disks.

My question is whether I could turn that feature off without having any nasty side effects, and if there are some, what they are.

Thanks in advance!
