I dual boot XP with Ubuntu 10.10 and have installed Startup Manager with Synaptic Package Manager to make Xp the default O.S.I find that I cannot boot XP into safe mode using F8. Should this be possible and if so how? F8 is the correct key.

Are you using the F8 key after selecting XP? I believe you should be.

Thankyou,Xp is already selected as I have used Startup Manager to make XP the default OS. I press F8 when the boot options appear and it boots into Ubuntu.

I understand that you have XP as your default, try selecting it, then hit F8 and that should work.

Thankyou again but as Xp is the default OS it is already selected. When the boot options show:-
If I press F8 then enter Ubuntu loads.
If I press enter then F8 I only have the option to load XP normally.I am beginning to think that it is a shortcoming of Startup Manager.

Is this a Wubi install? Is Ubuntu installed inside of windows???

It is not a Wubi installation,it is on separate partitions on the same disk.
