View Full Version : [gnome] Script to toggle window visibility

error.

Hey!

I need a script/tool/whatever to toggle visibility of a specified window.
I'm using Ubuntu with GNOME and compiz.
I found wmctrl which can maximize, minimize windows and so on, but it couldn't make a window "hidden".
There is even a option for it, but it doesn't work (neither for me nor for this guy creating this manual: http://spiralofhope.com/wmctrl-examples.html)

So my question:
Is there another way to toggle visibility of a window? Any tool for that or even any commands for a bash script?

Thanks in advance!

You could look at the Opacify option on the ccsm , it allows you to hide a window by placing the cursor over the window you want to view and then the window will re-appear when you move the cursor back over the area of the hidden window.

Depending on how your using the window you could use the compiz widget layer plugin.
eg I have a moc terminal running fullscreen in the widget layer
and can toggle visibility by clicking the top right screen corner.

I've already tried with Layer Plugin, but what I want is some similar behavior to guake.
The window should pop up like a normal window, because I want to scoll windows in background or I want to make the window always visible, so that I can continue to work with other applications.

hope you unterstand my problem..

thanks for help!
