After upgrading vertical lines appear at login

Hi,

I upgraded ubuntu from 10.04 to 10.10 and after upgrading at login screen nothing shows up only white lines. When i was upgrading to 10.10 a message appeared on screen regarding failure to remove fglrx. I wonder if this is the issue. I can still login using the old version but cant go to updated ubuntu. Any help would be appreciated.:)

Try choosing nomodeset...

Just sayin... I read somewhere that if you suspend & resume, it might come back without the lines. At least it does for some.
