Hi there,
recently I noticed that everytime I opened Firefox my CPU charge mounted to about 90%, and my RAM usage also mounted to about 90%.
I have installed Google as my homepage under Firefox.
When I change that homepage to Yahoo, or Creative Commons, or whatever search engine, my usage of CPU and RAM falls back to about 10% each.
Anyone has any idea of why Google became this hungry?
I am running Lucid (10.04.2), Kernel Linux 2.6.32-30-generic, IDE 250GB, CPU0 Intel Pentium4 2.40GHz, CPU1 Intel Pentium4 2.40GHz, DRAM 750Mb.
Thanks for your time usage :D

Do you use IGoolge and sign in to your own page or do you just use Google.com for a start page ? Even if you use IGoogle that is very high.
Just for the heck of it . search for the Firefox start page and set it as home page and see if that makes any difference.

And I'm not using I-Google, so that's OK too. When I set the home page to Yahoo, it falls back to about 65%, which is, to my knowledge, still way too much.
I'm beginning to think it could have something to do with Firefox add-ons or plug-ins, but can't seem to figure out what exactly. I haven't installed that much of them, merely the basic ones, like Adobe Flash Player and so on.
Of course I am also considering some kind of hacking or phishing, seeing that I have the same results on both my harddisks, each running Lucid and Firefox in the same configuration. If this would be the case, has anyone any suggestion on how to find out if my PC has been hacked? Where should I look to find any sign of intruders?
Thanks again for your willing support,

Hi there everyone, for some reason I haven't found out yet, my CPU and RAM usage fell back to approx 10% and 26%, which is about what it should be.
The only change that could have occurred is that I was looking for an entry in my lastlog file. To obtain this result I performed the following actions:
Ctr-Alt-F1 (which gave me a terminal line)
log in using my log-in name and password
Alt-F7 (to return to Gnome GUI)
And that was it!
Back in Gnome I saw that my CPU and RAM usage returned to the normal status.
As I mentioned before, don't ask me what happened, but this was the result that I got.
So as far as I'm concerned the problem is solved and I will mark this thread that way.
