It depends, if you want eyecandy and tons of options for tons of resources, try azureus, otherwise I am absolutely satisfied with bittornado, it is simple and functional.

I love utorrent, but that is in windows :(
So for linux, Azureus has tons of features and works well, the only downside is Java.

I use Azureus, I like all the features, but I could be swayed by something simple but fast, any takers?

Transmission (http://transmission.m0k.org/). I just love the simple UI plus it's very light and gets the job done.

I downloaded the RPM and converted it using alien, but it didn't work. The name of the one I downloaded was "transmission-0.5-2.cru.i386.rpm". There was one before that. Should I have downloaded that one instead?

rTorrent. Graphical torrent programs are a pain if I need to log out of X, so I just open rTorrent on a virtual console and then I can just leave it running for however long I need.

uTorrent works great with wine. It's lightweight and at least as good in features as azureus.

I just use bittorrent-gui. I'm not so much a file swapper as I was when was using XP. Nowadays it seems I only need a bittorrent client when I'm downloading an Ubuntu ISO. :)

azureus
and for users who don't require all the options of azureus the default bittorrent client that's installed in Ubuntu is fine IMHO.

BitTorrent, keepin' it simple, keepin' it real. If you're really keen on sucking up 200MB of memory to download a file, feel free to try Azureus.

I originally used Mainline, which was OK but lacking in feature. I then briefly used BitTornado, which was better. But then I used Azureus on recommendation from a friend, and was instantly hooked. It's got every feature you could possibly need, and my PC is more than powerful enough to handle it. I'm still trying to get it to work on this side though...

Azureus. It's very well done and has a lot of stats and graphics and I'm mad about that. And you can make it schedule downloads. But the default ubuntu client is also very good.

If by 200 you mean 50-70, then yea, youve got it right.

uTorrent and Azureus are the only ones I would ever use.

uTorrent with 79 torrents: 8MB
Azureus with 3 torrents: 43MB

Heh, when utorrent isnt on your OS, you need to go with the second best ;P

Is there any other torrent client than Azureus, that can scedule downloads? This has been the only feature, which I have missed in other clients that I have tried up until now.

I live in a remote place where I can only get flat-rate from 24 to 08, so it is really important ](*,)

I use BitTorando, and you should too. It's lightweight but has more features than the origional BitTorrent Client and it's written in Python for platform independence

Official BitTorando website (http://bittornado.com/)
BitTorando Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTornado)

I use Azureus but for some reason I can't download torrents (it doesn't connect?), so I guess I use the default one in Breezy. Transmission was quite good in OSX, so I'll try it in Linux and see how it works

Hi All,

I am new to ubuntu but an old user of linux. I recently stumbled upon deluge a BT client for linux. In windows I had been using uTorrent and deluge is the linux equivalent of that. Great performance, good functionality with minimal baggage.

Hope that helps.

surprised it took this long to mention deluge, but yea transmission is nice; try buliding from source instead of using rpm (svn worked for me)

Azureus, specifically the latest version (3.0.1.6) and not that rubbish they have in the official repos. Damn there's such a difference in quality/speed/robustness between the two.

Azureus is a resource hog, therefore I looked for something simpler that worked well (meaning, fast and reliable).

I settled on Transmission (http://www.getdeb.net/app.php?name=Transmission), after having tried a few (Deluge included) and haven't looked back.

I also have to chime in for rtorrent. It takes a little getting used to, but after a few minutes with the instructions (http://http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/wiki/RTorrentUserGuide) I haven't looked back.
