I've been thinking about picking up an HTC Thunderbolt, since they finally released it. I've been reading a lot of reviews and articles about it.

One thing I've noticed that really gets on my nerves is that there are a lot of looong reviews about it, and out of all of them I've only seen about 3 sentences that even talk about the experience of talking to someone on the phone.

It's a darned phone for crying out loud!

If you want it only for talking you could get one of these (http://www.loopygadgets.com/2010/09/johns-phone-the-simplest-cellphone-ever/). :P

Whenever I want to buy a new phone, I resort to gsmarena (http://www.gsmarena.com/) for what to choose: the user opinions are invaluable feedback.

Yeah I know, phones now are reviewed based on their ability to do computer stuff rather than for actually doing voice communications. That's how the iPhones get good reviews. Reviewers also condescendingly imply that people who want to use their phones as phones should buy a Nokia 2330 or something.

I have the HTC Desire and the call quality is acceptable, although not as good as my Nokia E63. The Thunderbolt might be better because it looks like it has a bigger grille for the speaker.

I hope you're right, but I've heard that bottom grille is just cosmetic, maybe to cover up something on the inside. But you're probably talking about what looks like a big wide speaker at the top.
