If you're a student looking to get involved in open source, especially in video editing and multimedia, participating in Google's Summer of Code programme would provide you with a fulltime summer job and the great opportunity to learn the ropes with your favorite open source projects (be it pitivi or other participating projects).
Just thought I'd share this info here, since not everyone reads Planet GNOME (or even know of its existence)...
