I am currentley dual booting Mepis 8.5 and Win7.

I am looking at installing the latest Ubuntu in the place of my Mepis 8.5 install. Any suggestions on how to do this as pain free as possible?

Thanks

Jesse

Welcome to the forums!

In install just choose the partition, Mepis is currently using and format it clean, then install there.

PS. I sure hope, that with "the latest" Ubuntu, you don't mean Natty (11.04), since It is Alpha3 right now...

I'm sorry I was not clear.

I mean installing Ubuntu over Mepis while preserving Data. (/home)

And by latestest I do mean latyest stable release.

That's different ... I know, if you install over Ubuntu, data is preserved. I have never tested it tho, so wait for someone, who had experience in this field to answer or if possible, run a test drive in a virtual machine.
