Hi everybody, Keir Thomas (http://keirthomas.com) here. I'm the author of the insanely popular Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference (http://ubuntupocketguide.com), the free ebook that's been downloaded by over 1,000,000 people worldwide. :o

Anybody who has a Kindle might be interested in two new ebooks I've published at just $0.99 (or around £0.99 in the UK):

- Working at the Ubuntu Command-Line Prompt (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004RYVI0Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=beginningubun-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004RYVI0Q) (UK link (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004RYVI0Q/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=beginningubun-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B004RYVI0Q))
and
- Managing the Ubuntu Software System (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SHF03S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=beginningubun-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004SHF03S) (UK link (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004SHF03S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=beginningubun-21&linkCode=as2&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B004SHF03S))

I'm trying hard to get word out about these books so if you can blog about them, or just mention them to friends, I'll be eternally grateful.

Cheers

Done and done! The pocket guide was one of the first books I downloaded. Thanks for your hard work! Also, I just posted this info on my Facebook wall.

What's the reasoning behind the higher price for the UK? I don't live there, but if I did I wouldn't be happy about being singled out for different pricing because of my location...

Why not, everyone else in the world has to do the same, even though the Canadian dollar is close to par with the American dollar, we still pay approximately 20% more for the same item. I've been told that prices are kept artificially low in the states at the expense of the rest of the world.

BTW I reported myself for posting a political comment :)

Keir Thomas, Thank You. Your books, starting with Beginning Ubuntu Linux 2nd or 3rd Edition, have been a great help to me.
Just downloaded the two mentioned in this thread. I'm sure they will be as important to me as the others.

Have a great day. Eldera.

Hi, it's down to taxes like VAT. Still, 99p isn't that expensive, is it? ;)

Why release it in the Amazon Swindle DRM'd format when you could sell it pretty much anywhere else without the DRM?

"Treasure Island", corporate slang for the United Kingdom, as many multinational companies have a higher profit margin on the products they ship there

It's mainly because Amazon offers extremely easy access to their online store. It's literally a one-click procedure to get a book its own page at the Amazon Kindle store. As far as a publisher is concerned, Amazon offers a complete package that's hard to argue with.

This is also why I haven't yet produced versions for other ebook readers. I need to look into what kind of systems they have in place.
