Running karmic server 64bit
root on LVM with swap and boot in their own separate partitions.

ran upgrade via webmin and afterwards discovered MySQL can't start as partition is full.
Should be not be near full. 500 gig drive. Not used for media.

under sudo performed rm trash, apt clean, and find files +1G
No big log files nor anything seemingly out of the ordinary.
rm more files and apt-get uninstall a number of able to sacrifice packages.
a number of uninstalls fail with "dependencies not met"
sudo apt-get -f install fails with many messages of no space and error 1.

No space freed.

installed spare drive installed 10.10. No GUI installed.
fsck shows clean.
mount "full" LVM shows as 100% used.

any advice would be quite welcome.
thanks,

Deleting files from the alternate drive 10.10 installation freed up 2% of the drive and MySQL is now able to start.
Unfortunately that still leaves me unable to update the original as I need the MySQL DB running.
As there seems to be no help forth coming, I plan on building a new server this weekend and shall move the DB over to it.

Should I avoid LVM?

Should I avoid placing the root folder in the LVM and only use it for data?

Should anyone have ideas I would appreciate it.
thanks again,
