one option is to google your model.

but that might not give a definite answer. as often same models can have different motherboards.

So have a look here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1422475

Look at this page (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11876_div/11876_div.html#Technical%20Specifications)

It also might be silk screened on the motherboard somewhere in fine print.

Hello, Thank's to both of you for the quick info.

I did a quick Google of it and found this:

http://www.evertek.com/viewpart.asp?auto=66939&cat=MBB&cpc=MBBbsc

Which I believe is the correct one.

Any ideas where else to look, or is that a waste of time ?

Thank's again,

The POST screen when you boot up your computer should display the motherboard type.

Boot your computer, then hit the PAUSE key when the screen comes up.

I have not used it in a while but you could try sysinfo , builds of the same computer can have different boards.

OHHH...Did your video card die so you have to replace the motherboard?

You actually don't have to replace it with that exact same motherboard. Looking around on Newegg they don't have any good replacements that are better than that motherboard. For simplicity you can just replace it with the exact same motherboard.

Hello, No the video did not die. I have leaking capacitors.

I did not discover them until a month after I bought the machine, which was almost 3yrs. ago now.

There is no easy fix for this type of problem I am aware of.

My thought also was to replace it with the same one, if nothing better was out there.

Maybe there is a better price ?

Thank's

Replacing leaking caps is not a big deal if you're handy with a soldering iron. I've done it on at least 5 motherboards and two XBOX's so far.

Maybe there's a local shop that will replace them for a small fee?

If you have the courage and a steady hand you can replace the capacitors. Or if you don't feel up to the challenge you can simply replace the motherboard. (I fear that a computer repair shop would charge more than the cost of a new mobo.)

After a quick google search it appears that Evertek is the cheapest. The next cheapest I found was Geeks.com (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=D865GVLCL-PB&cat=MBB)

Good luck on fixing your computer! ^_^

Hello, Frogs Hair, sysinfo still works, after I installed it. It did not give info. on MB though.

I realize replacing the caps is no big deal since I have gone to electronics school, the thing is a small stroke has made my right hand unsteady. So, at this point doing a board replacement would be a breeze for me.

I am planning on doing a memory up-grade to the max. of 4G and add a LED monitor.

So I am thinking I should do the MB while I am in the house.

Anyone think I should up the PS, there is a 240w in it now.

Thank's for the heads up on prices.

I don't think adding the extra RAM will push your PS over the top. Install everything just the way you want it and see what the PS does. If it doesn't work then go ahead and buy a 300 W PS. (300 is the max I think you would need for that system)
