Where is the off button on Gnome 3 shell?

You mean a button to turn the computer off? If you right-click in one of the task bars (i.e. the things that have the menus and other icons), you can choose "Add To Panel...". From there, choose Shut Down or Indicator Applet Session. That should add an icon or menu to turn off your machine. HTH.
