I haven't "done" anything. Just standard updates.
I went to enter a search in the search bar and noticed it was set to Ask.com so I clicked it to change it back to google and discovered ALL the search engines except Ask.com are now missing.
I only screegrabbed the relevant bit as I thought you'd all understand what I was grabbing.
here's a full screeny.....

There was a thread about this recently and one person resolved the problem in about:config , but did not give steps to the solution . you're not alone.

Thanks for that.
I've sorted it now as none of "cures" in your links actually applied in this case... ie: in about:config there was no entry for ask.com !!
Everything was as it should be.
What I did was to switch to guest account for destructive experimentation.
Selected "Manage Search Engines"
I discovered you can't remove Ask.com as there is nothing there to replace it and the "Reset to Defaults" is ghosted.
So I clicked add search engines and added Google Uk and set to use immediately. I could then delete Ask.com.
I then was able to select "Reset to Defaults" but this simply added Ask.com again.
I haven't rebooted yet so hopefully ask.com is gone forever !!
