View Full Version : [SOLVED] what is the risk of upgrading to a unstable version?

I had 10.10 Desktop on a HP Pavilion and the wireless would not turn on :(. Now i have 10.04 netbook installed on the same computer and the wireless is fine.I'm wating for the 11.10 upgrade. I would like to know if i have to upgrade to 10.10 or can i upgrade to 11.04.

I believe you could just upgrade once to the 10.10 and reboot and upgrade again to 11.04. I would say the risk is just in risking what 11.04 will bring about. There doesn't seem to be any risk in skipping an upgrade.

Here's a tip: NEVER upgrade to an unstable / unreleased version.

I did that with 9.04 --> 9.10 when 9.10 had just come out, and ran into a ton of problems. Waited for the LTS to come out (10.04 LTS actual release), and then the LTS worked almost perfectly out of the box.

So if you're considering 11.04 right now, DON'T, because its not even released (last I heard, its only in alpha stage).

10.10 is more stable than 11.04, and is actually released, so if anything, go with 10.10 rather than the alpha-stage 11.04
