I was just wondering if anyone is going to try out elementary os when it's released (planned for later this month). It looks quite interesting. http://elementaryos.org/

lol, Pre-Order? So we'd have to buy the OS?

It will be available to download for free once it's released. They're charging for the discs to be sent before that.

Oh wow. I didn't realize it is planned to be released in March!

I've tried Postler, and while it doesn't quite beat claws-mail for me, it's very nice.

I am very curious about elementaryos and will be downloading it on release day.

What's the point of ElementaryOS? Isn't it just another Ubuntu respin?

It depends on your definition of 'just another', technically Linux Mint is 'just another' ubuntu respin, but many will attest that it is worthwhile in its own right.

Elementary OS features all of the individual elementary projects as a whole, and while I find several individual projects of theirs great, I don't feel the need for many of their other projects, like address book and dictionary searcher.

That said I will download it and give it a try, report any bugs I run across and give my honest feedback on it, this is definitely a good thing and something I like about linux :)

It is not a respin. ElementaryOS brings its own dock, application launcher, panel, email client, dictionary, and file manager.

Mint is a respin. Crunchbang is a respin. These basically contribute nothing other than a different default batch of applications and a new theme.

Isn't Ubuntu just another Debian respin?

Ah I see. Right on :)

Can someone point me to their roadmap that says they are releasing this month?

It looks really good.
