Hello, I want to try out ubuntu with xfce, thing is, I don't know how to safely add and remove a desktop environment. Anyone know how to do this so I don't break ubuntu?:lolflag:

I don't want to install xubuntu, partially because I want to learn how to do this stuff myself.

What is a safe way of installing xfce and removing it if I didn't like it?

sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

To remove, replace install with remove. To switch DE's, log out and switch.

Simply install the "xfce4" metapackage:

sudo apt-get install xfce4
If you want to remove it again:

sudo apt-get purge xfce4
sudo apt-get autoremove
@the others: "xubuntu" and "purexfce"? Didn't you read the initial post!?

Nope. After the installation, you should be able to choose the desired "Session" option at the bottom of the login screen, after clicking at your name.
