i got winxp installed on an old machine with not working cd rom drive and not bootable USB, so i used unetbootin to install ubuntu 10.10 from hard drive.
I execute it in win, it does everything correctly, then after the reboot it starts ubuntu for finalizing the installation but it's alla very slow and when i click on the "install ubuntu icon" error boxes appear saying:

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet" Do you want to delete the applet from configuration?

and

The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_Panel_TrashApplet" Do you want to delete the applet from configuration?

In both cases there are only two choices Delete or Don't Delete

after a while, a few seconds, everything disappears returning to the icons as if nothing had happened except for the fact that the appearance is different, like if i changed the theme.
clicking again on install ubuntu gives the same results

anyway the installation never starts
