I am currently having previous version of Ubuntu and trying to upgrade to 10.10 version, i tried upgrading using ubuntu's update manager but it gives error because of a dependency, so i decided to download iso and use it for usb installation.

So i boot up from the usb, and i choose install ubuntu on hard drive, then it starts to boot and then screen gets blank (or white background sometimes) with colored vertical lines on it, i thought system is halted but after sometime i hear the sound of logging into ubuntu so it means there is an issue about video card or something related.

I had similar issues with my old version of ubuntu, for example when i choose shutdown, screen gets same issue above but then i can easily shutdown the laptop with power button. I was using acpi=off boot option for previous version as boot option but it doesn't work for installation from usb.

And when i choose run ubuntu from usb it gives same error. I have an ati graphic card
