I've noticed that Ubuntu seems to be getting bloated and complicated, especially with this crappy 11.04 release that ruins it totally. Anyway, I have an old computer and would like to get the most out of it. I am running 10.10 right now, and would like to downgrade to Warty Warthog, which I used a few years ago, and seemed fast. It's older, so it can be lighter on the resources than 10.10 I suppose. Anyway, I cant find it anywhere, so could anyone help me find that? Also, I'll need installation instructions since it is probably pretty heard to install. It would be great if I could get some help on this, I know you guys can help, thanks!

11.04 crappy? Hasn't released yet. Try it again when it releases in late April, then it'll work better.

Google keywords "ubuntu warty download" brought up 38,500 results with this link at the top, http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/warty/

Cheers,
uRock

Excuse me, thank you for trying, but in the title I clearly posted Hoary. I honestly cannot find Hoary Hedgehog. Can you please help me with that?

Do you need 32 or 64 bit? Do you want to torrent or direct download? Do you want the LiveCD or the installer?

I can't be of much help with installation as Warty hows been out of service for quite some time.

It's Hoary. But I need 32 bit, a direct download, and a Live Cd. I'm beginning to wonder if it's worth it to get this old version, I just wish the new version (11.04) would be usable! Do you think Hoary would be a good choice, or is there anything better after 11.04 comes out, because that thing is unusable!

I was going by this. To find Hoary, all you had to do was search Google for "ubuntu hoary download (http://www.google.com/search?client=ubuntu&channel=fs&q=ubuntu+hoary+download&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8)" and the first link is the one you would have wanted. Anyway here is the link to the Hoary LiveCD http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/hoary/ubuntu-5.04-live-i386.iso and the Hoary install CD as they are different http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/hoary/ubuntu-5.04-install-i386.iso

Here is the link

11.04 doesn't release until the end of April of 2011. At that time it should be usable for you. It is still in Alpha testing and has many bugs to be fixed yet.

Thank you. You're wonderful.<3. I can't stand that 11.04 isn't based on Gnome though. I really don't like Unity at all. But thank you for digging through that for me. :D Sorry that I wrote Warty and then Hoary, and everything. I'm going to try it, but do you think I could really use it full time? Anyway, thanks <3

It will be. Gnome 3 looks a lot like it, but without the beauty. I am not sure how Warty or Hoary will work as neither are supported any longer.
Currently supported releases are;
Hardy 8.04
Karmic 9.10
Lucid(Long Term Support) 10.04
Maverick 10.10

Fedora 14 looks really good, and Gnome 3 has a lot of interesting ideas of its own. If 11.04 turns out to be Ubuntu's jump-the-shark moment F14 may be a good plan B. Thankfully, aside from the hide-and-seek menus and some minor nuances with the Launcher behavior, both of which I'm confident will be addressed before final release, the rest of Unity is very pleasing.

Whatever you do, don't install an obsolete version of Ubuntu. It is a major security threat.

Your options are

- A minimal Ubuntu

- Lubuntu

- Another light Linux

What makes you think 11.04 is not based on gnome? Of course it's based on gnome. Unity is just a shell running on top of gnome. If you don't like Unity you simply choose 'classic desktop' at login.

Why would Hoary be insecure? I thought Linux didn't get viruses, or at least not many. Are those updates I get security? Also, is there anyway to make classic desktop default? That useless dock is annoying me. Unity is too complicated and tries to be flashy, will there be any new spinoff of Ubuntu that doesn't have it at all?

There is no such thing as a completely secure operative system, but Linux and BSD are far better than Windows, in part because the bugs are fixed faster.

For an obsolete version:
If there has not been released any bug fix in several years, but the attackers have had the same period of time for finding holes, what do you think the result is?

Forget everything about Unity and 11.04 for now. As for all releases, give it a try a couple of months after the official release date.

You select classic when logging in. The next time you log in, it will use the last setting you chose (ie. classic)
