Suppose I place the computer on its side instead of its normal vertical orientation...

I wouldn't happen unless you had some seriously heavy aftermarket attachments going on. Just putting it on it's side would make no difference.

i don't think so, no...

OTOH, i hear the next Noctua is gonna have enough space to accommodate a Corsair Obsidian case... maybe that one will crush a CPU :lolflag:

That's actually how I transported my last build. PC on it's side, MB down, huge heatsink I can't remember the name of right now sticking straight up off the board, for an 8 hour drive.

I was warned to do this as it's quite heavy and I guess a few people have had problems with all the vibration considering it's sticking straight out horizontally normally and kind of prying/twisting on the area around the CPU socket. More worried about a cracked board than a damaged CPU though.
