So I have a Dell XPS Studio machine that has Windows 7 dual booting with Unbuntu. After booting into Windows 7 for the first time, on shut down it seems that the Dell Backup utility decided to nerf my MBR without asking, foolish me for not removing the software but I was unaware of the problem.

Anyway, I performed a fix with Rescatux and got grub to boot once more, however when I attempt to boot into Ubuntu I get the error message "dev/md0 not properly unmoutned, check forced" I now cannot access my Ubuntu OS, however I can access Windows 7 without issue via Grub. Does anyone know a fix for this issue?

I also cannot reinstall Ubuntu either, I get an error message:

"(process:499): GLib-WARNING **: getpwuid_r(): failed due to unknown user id (0)"

I am completely out of ideas, throw me a bone.
