To the poster who resurrected a dead thread to ask about alternatives to MS Access .. Its much better to start a new topic than go back 2 years.
You would probably be best downloading Microsoft SqlServer Express and also downloading Visual Studio Express.
Design your database and deploy for access in the normal way. You can design your forms in Visual Studio or, alternatively develop an asp.net web application.
Access is a poor alternative.
Im not too sure what the Linux alternative would be but nothing, as people say, is impossible :)
