View Full Version : [all variants] MySQL on liveDVD - ERROR 2002 /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

Hi guys,

I'm the lead Dev of GnackTrack and we're having issues with running MySQL on the LiveDVD.

Once installed everything works fine, mysql can be connected to but when using the liveDVD we get the following error:

root@root:~# mysql
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2)

Contents of /etc/mysql/my.cf point to /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock but because this is a liveDVD the actual file is located in:
/rofs/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock

root@root:~# updatedb
root@root:~# locate mysqld.sock
/rofs/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
root@root:~#

Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated as currently live users are not able to use many of the tools that rely on mysql running

Use tcp connection instead of unix socket? Or specify the correct socket path with the -S option? :confused:

sorry how would i set mysql to use tcp? basically connect back to 127.0.0.1?

lots of tools automatically connect back to the DB so i dont think it will be possible to modify the socks option as many use this.

mysql -h127.0.0.1

or if your apps use the mysql cli client directly with out any host or socket option you can alias the mysql command to use the -h or -S param by default..

No joy for either :-(
