Can ubuntu, or maybe some kind of linux, be put on cell phones or Ipods? This is just a passing curiosity. I have a Samsung Gravity 3 that i never use and im just wondering if linux will work on there. And also im wondering if linux will work on playstations or xboxs. That would be a really fun project to try out!

Thanks

There are lots of phones that already have Linux on them.

Moving to the Cafe.

Phone in my avy shows a phone that is a complete Linux system, not just a kernel with a Java layer or some other obscure layer. Pure, 100% Linux on the phone. Too bad Nokia now hates Linux...

As uRock is hinting, Android is a Linux, so every smart phone or high-end media player that isn't made by Apple is on Linux. All e-book readers, too.

By the look of it, the firmware on a Samsung Gravity 3 is simple, proprietary, and closed.

This (http://www.web-soft-design.com/military-supercomputer-built-with-ps3/) is a supercomputer made out of PS3s running Linux. = ) (The first release; the later, slimmer model is locked down to the PS3 OS.) More complicated, but there are less professionally-oriented projects for the 360 (http://www.free60.org/Main_Page) as well.

Um, that's a Linux VM on a Windows Vista machine, isn't it?

Yellowdog Linux was the preferred Linux as used by those that make PS3 clusters, usually universities.

Following is an old link, but it is a place to start:

Google will bring up the xbox pages.
