The option for "Install alongside other operating systems" is missing and Ubuntu seems to think that my hard drive is just free space.

I have Windows installed on the hard drive and partitioned off 100gb for Linux as unallocated space using Windows 7. I boot up the Ubuntu cd and it sees the entire hard drive as free space. Am I doing something wrong? I had no issues before getting Ubuntu and Windows to dual boot back in 2007/2008.

Is there not an option for choose partitions manually?

There are only 2 options, the erase hard drive and the partition one.

When I select to partition manually, it shows the entire hard drive as free space. I don't know if it's safe to partition the hard drive when it doesn't even see my Windows install.

I would install Ubuntu using wubi from Win7 and install Gparted to just to see what it says. Also maybe use Unetbootin to make a USB or CD and see what happens from there.
