Rather that give you a list of software alternative, I might recommend spending some time browsing through the software repositories. You open Nautilus (which is the repository manager), found in the System tab on the top left.

Welcome and enjoy!

I'm using a-desk for live wallpaper. You can go to sites like to get more animated wallpapers: http://www.alunablue.com/
There are some free animated sites if look up with Google.

Here's a video of my Desktop with animated wallpaper: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7YkNPyF7c0&hd=1

AIM

You might try Empathy... it's the default messenger in new Ubuntu installs and supports AIM and a myriad of other protocols.

To make DVDs: devede
It creates an ISO, then you use brasero or k3b to actually write the DVD.

Spend a few minutes with devede's help file so you can understand the available options. For example, I made a DVD that immediately starts playing, and when it finishes, it plays again.

Hmmm, I can't seem to figure this one out completely... I did all the steps, logged out and logged back in, but in my ~/.gnome2 folder I dont have that world_sunlight.jpg only one that says "world.jpg" and it's just a blank image.. I opened up the folder with the changer.sh file and ran the script in terminal and get this message..
