i am having really bad times with ubuntu 64bit on laptop

i have installed ubuntu 10.10 through wubi inside windows on may laptop. I have to compile and install some .c files hence i need build essential package

i got the package by doing apt-get install build-essential.

uptill now it is good. after this i complied my .c file using the command make and installed the compiled file using make install. everything was fine uptill now i.e. i was getting a desired output after this

then i restarted the machine and then ubuntu did not start. then clicked the recovery mode, it did its work but after that when i started it in normal mode, it did not work. so i have to uninstall it from windows and install it again. this happen more that 10-15 times.

its crazy to install and uninstall everytime when it did not work

if somebody could give me a solution to this it would be great. or else give a response on how to troubleshoot ubuntu when it does not start in normal mode.

i am new to ubuntu troubleshooting.
