I have an old laptop Pentium M processor, no-name 2gig memory, 60gig HD.
I am running Ubuntu 9.04 because 10.04 and 10.10 will not load on it. In fact I couldn't get the CD to bootup to even install. (I tried three different CD's with the same results.) I then tried doing an upgrade via the program manager. When it finish, the laptop would not boot up. Went back to 9.04, and everything works great.
Today I downloaded 11.04 beta 2 and the live CD boots to the desktop. I don't want to install it yet until the final release in 4/2011 because This PC is being used on a sound system in the church. (So I don't want to use the beta version).
The reason I want to get it up to date is because of some issues with 9.04 which is no longer supported with updates.
The one question I have: Has there been changes made to 11.04 that allows it to boot on older hardware that 10.** did not allow to do so?
