View Full Version : [SOLVED] Can't Disable Touchpad On Sony VAIO

February 22nd, 2011, 11:21 PM
Hey all,

So I was given a Sony VAIO Laptop as a gift and am running Kubuntu Lucid Lynx therein (before you say anything, yes, I already know a VAIO is hardly the place for a newb to run Linux, I'm just treating it like a challenge to learn faster.) Before, I couldn't enable desktop effects and a lot of things weren't working. There's been a major breakthrough with that, but now the computer seems to only halfway detect the touchpad (I.E. it'll work, but the interface has it "on" by default, the option to change that is greyed-out and the right hand side says "unable to detect device.")

This is -really- annoying being as anytime I try to type, my palms are running into the touchpad, changing the location of the mouse and/or clicking on something I didn't mean to touch and either de-selecting the field or changing the page entirely. Can anybody offer any remedies? Thanks!
