View Full Version : Woah! Tux published my letter!

In the current issue of Tux:

Mango Has Gone Too Far!
Mango went too far when she said, “So if you are too stupid
for KDE, GNOME is perfect for you.”
I demand that she apologize for that comment and be fired!
That was totally inappropriate for her to say!

I know that I shouldn't have been as emotional when I posted that, but then again I do tend to overreact to some things.

Anyway, the editor responded:

As Editor, I’d like to apologize for that comment. I’m responsible
for every word that goes into each TUX issue. I should have
changed that comment, but I thought it was within her rights to
think and write that. However, I didn’t exercise my right to
remove it. I should have, but I promise that I won’t let it happen
again—either from Mango or from any of our other authors.
From now on, I will strive to make TUX rise above the comments
that divide our community. If I slip, you most certainly can
ask for my resignation.—Ed.

I hope this is a change in the right direction for this magazine!

I also noticed that there were Gtk apps featured in the most recent issue.

I usually skip the mango section, the rest is normally good.
May be the section is supposed to be taken humorously.

I reckon they only published your letter because of how over-the-top it was. I bet they found it hilarious.

it was the overabundance of exclamation points

it was the overabundance of exclamation points
But he should have emphasized this even more !!!111!!!11111eleveneleven
:-D

Anyway, good to see that they are changing there tune. This bashing of the other desktop environment that you don't use really gets incredibly old.

Also good that someone didn't just complain here, but took the time to actually write a letter to the editors.

I know my letter was over the top. I should have waited a while to craft something a bit more reasonable, but sometimes we let emotions get the best of us.

At any rate, at least they're stating that they'll try to be better about using devisive language.

I agree with you, Mango is a total biatch sometimes and I always skip that section

Cool, I only noticed the letter because you were blogged about on Planet Gnome :)

And I absolutely detest Mango Parfait. Otherwise, the magazine is pretty good.

i use a dodgeit account for my subscription
http://www.dodgeit.com/

just make up any name e.g.
imsosexy @ dodgeit.com
then go to dodgeit to get the email. there's no password on the account so it's only useful for unimportant stuff. i think every account is cleared after 7 days.

i use gnome and like Mango. i don't think she can be fired, i don't think she's real.

I don't dislike Mango because of her anti-Gnome comments, I just dislike her because the way she writes makes her sound like she's either high, has brain damage or is just stupid. I'm sure the way she seems isn't completely "real", but it really is just annoying.

I like Tux Mag., but they are KDE lovers. I guess thats OK. I think Mango is a guy anyways.

I think Mango is a guy anyways. its probably the editor or it could be all the authors collectively (ie various staff members write each reply). Mango is probably just a pseudonym to represent tux magazine.

I just read that mango's article a minute ago and found it's both insulting and ridiculously funny...wait...just ridiculous :)
