View Full Version : [xubuntu] Unable to use dpkg-reconfigure or man pages because TERM environment variable wrong

February 21st, 2011, 05:58 AM
When I run the Unix 'man' command in a terminal, I get the message:

WARNING: terminal is not fully functional
- (press RETURN)

I find the formatting of the many pages is not very good as a result.

What is worse is that I am completely unable to run that handy Debian Linux application:

dpkg-reconfigure <debian-package-name>

... which often (but not always) allows me to easily configure Debian Linux packages without having to pore over manuals.

(In the past I also got a message which told me that the TERM environment variable had been fixed wrongly or needed to be fixed, but I can't reproduce that now. That may be a clue to what the problem is.)

Can anyone tell me how to fix this or tell me where the answer to this problem may be?

Thanks for your attention.
