Hi Guys,

I am going to be buying a new notebook. Which would you recommend for Ubuntu/Linux? Ideally I would like to maybe get a nice dual core AMD chip with Nvidia gfx, but so hard to find a decent one - anyone know of any?

Otherwise I might just go with the Macbook Pro:

Is the Macbook Pro officially supported on (K)Ubuntu?

I've heard it's difficult to get Linux running on one of the new Mactels, but I'm not sure. You can checkout the notebooks at http://www.cyberpowerinc.com. There are also a number of vendors that sell laptops with Linux pre-installed.

Here's a couple sites that sell linux laptops:

http://www.emperorlinux.com/

http://system76.com/

I've never shopped at either of them before, but they've been mentioned around here before.

the asus A8jm has a core duo (intel) and geforce 7600
if you want an amd chip, hold out for the turion X2's, which should be out later this year

I've heard an equal amount of horror stories and success stories about installing Linux on laptops. From what I can tell it's most likely up in the air.

By the way, mips, very cool icon. Scream, if I'm not mistaken?

Generally some give very little hassles while others are dogs to get working.

Unfortunately some idiots stole it and other paintings

I've put Ubuntu on about five or six laptops now, and never run into any problem that couldn't be fixed with a little research and a little time.

If you want one preinstalled, check out www.system76.com.
